“Just wonderful on its own ”
Ingredients
10 cups fresh apple cider
½ cup pure maple syrup (more or less, to taste)
3 cinnamon sticks
4 whole cloves
8 strips orange peel
8 strips lemon peel
1/2 stick butter
1 half stick cinnamon for garnish
For adults add up to 6 ounces of Gran Marnier
Preparation
- Pour the apple cider, cinnamon, cloves, orange peels, lemon peels and maple syrup into a large saucepan.
Place the saucepan over moderate heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cider is very hot but not boiling. Then allow to cool and strain into another large sauce pan and reheat to hot then turn fire off, add the butter and cover. Stir before serving and garnish with the cinnamon stick.
Hot apple cider is a comforting and aromatic beverage that embodies the essence of autumn and winter. Made from freshly pressed apples simmered with warming spices like cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and allspice, it delivers a sweet and tangy flavor that fills the air with seasonal coziness. Often served steaming in mugs, hot apple cider is a favorite drink during holidays, fall festivals, and family gatherings. It’s not only delicious but also rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, offering a natural boost to the immune system.
Traditionally enjoyed in both Europe and North America, this drink has evolved into a symbol of warmth and hospitality. Some recipes add a splash of citrus for brightness or a drizzle of maple syrup or brown sugar for depth. For adults, mulled versions often include a touch of rum, brandy, or bourbon. Whether you enjoy it by the fireplace or at a festive event, hot apple cider is the perfect way to stay cozy while celebrating the season’s bounty. Its comforting aroma and wholesome ingredients make it more than a beverage — it’s a cherished part of cold-weather tradition.
