Fungal Meningitis Found in Contaminated Steroid Injections

Meningitis occurs when there is an inflammation of the protective membranes known as the meninges that cover the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis can be caused by viruses, bacteria and fungus. Fungal meningitis is the least common of the three and is considered rare. However, recently there have been several cases of fungal meningitis reported in 9 states.
